iRecord

iRecord is a major national biological recording platform developed and maintained by the National Biodiversity Network (NBN). It covers many species groups, and is available to run as an app on smart phones and tablets (allowing use in the field) or on desktops and laptops for data entry at home. It is free to use and simply requires a registration with the NBN.

iRecord

iRecord botanical records are passed automatically to a "holding pen" on the BSBI's Distribution Database ("the DDb") where they can be verified by experts and subsequently released for public consumption. Unfortunately this can take some time, as it is done on a batch basis usually at monthly intervals. Then, because of the sheer volume of recording activity on iRecord, it may take months for the BSBI county recorders to take them through the verification process.

If you are a regular submitter of significant volumes of data, it can help speed up the process if you send an email to the recorder(s) for the part(s) of the two counties where you regularly record, so that they can include you on their lists for verifying records and provide you with feedback. If they don't already know you, please give some detail about your interests and the part of the county you live in.

If you regularly record more than one species group, then iRecord is a good platform for your plant recording - especially if you are already a user. If you record only vascular plants (ferns, conifers, flowering plants) then you may like to consider the BSBI's Recording App, which provides the scope for entering more information specific to plants in a structured and guided way.
